Few things do a better job of waking you up better than a good cup of coffee, and high-quality psytrance is definitely one of them. Dirty Saffi is back in a relentless release of the restless lockdown energy with their latest EP 'Out Of Time’. The hardest working couple in psytrance bring us their premium product as always, which consists of their signature double-edged basslines, oxidised leads, and vigorously rolling beats that are guaranteed to shake you from the bones and jolt you into motion. Get your fix of full-on psychedelia while we still have the time, and on a full moon night for maximum effect.

MM: Hello to the both of you! How has 2020 been for you so far?

DS: Well 2020 started rocking it in Brazil at universo paralelo and it was fantastic, all our friends together having a hell of a time! We thought it will be a great year with a start like that.... but just a month after everything started to fall apart. For musicians this has been so far challenging because our incomes disappeared but in other ways also gave us the time to re-access life, rest and work in other projects. I have to say it’s been all a slow process because there’s a lot to take in, but I think with a positive mindset we can come out in the other side stronger then ever. If we put our intentions in the right place we can make something incredibly from all this .

MM: Are we “Out of Time”? Why did you choose this particular name for the EP?

DS: "Time is a storm in which we are all lost. Only inside the convolutions of the storm itself shall we find our directions." - William Carlos Williams, Introduction to "Selected Essays"

MM: Do the track names have any story behind them? Perhaps “Too much Chilli” does…?

DS: Hahahah To much Chilli, When Nuky cooks... spiced up personality that comes out in a burst of intense strong attitude. To answer your question yes, all tracks name have a meaning or related the sample used.

MM: How was it different to make this music in the confines of the lockdown and not testing it on dance floors? How is your new sound different, if you feel so, from your earlier work?

DS: Well Music is always fulled by experiences and moods, when u make music fulled by the energy from the events you have been and the positive vibrations of the dancefloor comes out with a total different energy from music that Its fuelled from a lockdown experience where you have a total different mood and energy. Also we had much more time at home to think in detail about so many other aspects of the music, so it’s a conjunction of moody temperamental environment and the creativity and positivity of having some time for ourselves and putting in practice many other ideas that until now we didn’t had so much time to explore. We are really happy with the outcome, but as we mentioned we never had a chance of trying out the tracks on the dancefloor, it’s the first time ever that we released music that has never been played on the dancefloor.... but Im sure when we finally have a dancefloor to play it it will rock it 🤟🏻

MM: Would you say that more recent ’subcultures’ of psychedelic music affected your sound in any way?

DS: All the subcultures of the dancefloor are a massive influence and that is one of the main fuels for our music, we belong to these subcultures and our personalities are fused with alternative way of life. We are not interested to fit on the grid, we want to push, influence and fuel all the new generation to be different and alternative, we’re not here to be sheep, we are here to challenge normality and challenge oppressive society!

MM: What is the secret to the infamously unique Dirty Saffi Bass sound? How did you develop your powerful leads and baselines that stand out completely from other psytrance artists and seem to drive on with endless energy while keeping the mind engaged?

DS: The fusion of us as a couple brought to our music a different dimension, Nuky comes from techno and I come from pure psychedelic music. When we meet we wanted to create something that was a cross between fat militant techno baseline with psychedelic music. NUKY is full power and likes relentless, militant music and I love super modern hypnotic psychedelic sounds. Two creative minds with two very distinct approaches to music created this unique Dirty Saffi sound.

MM: You are known as “the hardest working couple in psytrance”. How do you manage to achieve and balance out your work, personal time and relationships?

DS: Mostly! There are times when We are really busy traveling doing gigs that is difficult to keep the balance, but mostly we have a pretty good method. We love music festivals and party but when we home we have a very regimented lifestyle, we never really drink at home, we eat only organic food, we sleep early, wake up early exercise and work. We give our body and mind all that it’s needed for full recovery from our lifestyle to keep us being able to be productive and have a balanced life at home. We help each other a lot, and we always there for each other. We both passionate about what we do and that’s what brought us together, so we don’t see it as work but as part of our lifestyle.

MM: What advice would you have for anyone who is striving to make high grade psychedelic dance music?

DS: Firstly do it because you love it, to have this life you needed love what you do and be ready to take as it comes, when u love something putting the work is easy because that’s all you can think about. Always thrive to achieve better, you can always do better, be better! Don’t stop making the effort because you think you know it all, you will never know it all, but you can always push to be better and do better. When you stop trying it’s because you lost your passion and your direction.

MM: How does the Full Moon amplify the effect of the music?

DS: The full moon can amplify your creativity or be really disruptive, it all depends on your state of mind. We had very creative times with full moon and we like to release music on the full moon because it represents completion, the height of power, the realisation of your desires and the peak of clarity. But like anything it’s important how you feel and how it translates in the present time of your life.
