Spatialize
Spatialize’s sublime musical expression is a result of early exposure to his grandmother’s piano, discovering the digital keyboard & the power of sampling, being a bassist in bands, and last but not least “being left to his own devices” (literally). All of these constituted vital parts of his journey and germinated into a vast body of work that displays his signature open, organic, psychedelic sound.
The two albums featured here are ‘Squaring the Circle’ which consolidates some of his earlier works and ‘Searching for the Source’ - a nod to the eternal search for meaning that mankind has embarked upon. The UK-based artist also shares several gold nuggets of wisdom from his three-decade-long experience as a musician, and gently confirms the fact electronic music can really flow from the heart.
Avilente
Berlin-based Avilente’s ‘Along The Shores Of An Infinite Memory’ takes us through a poetic and pensive passage of ideas of universal karmic memory, akashic libraries and quantum physics alike. Believing in the premise that “As conscious beings, we receive and give back into this ocean of memory and this cycle repeats endlessly”, this ambient downtempo journey is a sonic visualization of standing and drifting back and forth along the shorelines of the infinite cosmic memory.
Gardnsound
Multi-genre music producer and bonafide all-rounder Gardnsound continues his ambient journey with ‘Atmospheres’, a radiant and breezy 6-track long waft. The album was created completely with hardware instruments, and fully hands-on without automation of any parameters to get a humanized feel.
The artist, who is also known for his association with glitch-wizard and Ableton guru Mr. Bill, runs a multifaceted company ‘Easy Peasy Pro’ which provides personalized and customized technical & repair solutions and happens to be a prolific proponent of the DIY philosophy which he intrinsically wove into the creation of this record.
Dystorizon
Valencia-based producer Dystorizon is an exhilarating new breed of Indian electronic musicians who aims to break out of existing notions and make you “un-expect the expected” when it comes to creativity and musical expression.
His debut EP ‘Escape Velocity’ provides the necessary momentum to cut loose from conventions and hurtle towards exciting and unknown frontiers. As one of the ‘Bonafide 7 Collective’ core members, he is well on his way to causing ripples and waves that will set the tone for the future sounds of electronic music not just in his home country but around the world.
Ekorce
Ekorce’s latest EP ‘Imago’ is a true testament to his love for nature in all its simplicity, complexity and sheer awesomeness. The listener is taken through themes of transformation, metamorphosis and rebirth via vehicles of surreal symbolism and splendid sonics, also alluding to the last year and a half as perhaps a period of chrysalis for humanity.
The artist, who recently completed his PhD in Neurobiology, likes to use raw, crunchy, organic elements, unusual rhymic patterns and textures to enunciate his amazement at the patent beauty of creation, particularly the chaotic yet delicate wing movements of butterflies. The EP is a window through which one can perceive and marvel at such often overlooked occurrences.
Cualli
Fabulous funkmeister Cualli is back with his unique brand of dream-funk-hop and disco-psychedelia in his new album ’Tummy Fuzz’. Here, we are witness to some exciting instrumentation like the cat-funk conversation in ‘Pleasure Treasure’, a melodic talk-box in ‘Hungry Spiders’ and a quirky vocal hook in ‘Front Door’, all sandwiched between infectious, intertwining guitar riffs with light-hearted beats bopping underneath. These whimsical electro-funk jams will most definitely befriend you right to the bone and succour you with their carefree and magnetic demeanour. During the unpredictable ride that 2020 has been so far, this irresistible bowel movement boogie is a welcome form of audio inoculation that comes highly recommend.
Zen Baboon
Zen Baboon’s latest release Hidden Frogs is an aural bouquet of sublime harmonies, tantalising melodies, caressing ambiences and silky beats, all of which present to us a perfect paradox of flawless glitchy goodness. Tiptoeing between classical glitch, trip-hop, chillout and techno, all with a subtly psychedelic touch as mild yet seductive as a micro-dose of Lucy on a warm summer’s day in nature, the music occasionally evokes feelings that are reminiscent to traversing through Parisian rues or a quaint Lisbon alley in an alternate sur-reality. Zen Baboon’s work has always been one of a kind, rich in feeling, spontaneous, sentimental, sympathetic and with a strong storytelling sense. This record is no different as you are anachronistically transported through several layers of nostalgic moods and musical topographies that leave you enamoured by this delightful musical courtship.
KiloWatts
Eight Experiments is a jovial audio journey concocted by veteran musician KiloWatts that achieves a perfectly mesmeric sync between and electro-organic sound and a melodic atmosphere. This breezy and soothing summer jaunt is one of the most exemplary pieces of electronica that I have laid my ears on this year.
Man of no ego
An enigmatic figure in the ambient music scene, Man Of No Ego is an artist who reflects the essence of yoga through his music by unifying spirituality with sound to convey the universal message. This highly befitting union offers a soul cleansing listening experience to the observer till they become one with what is being observed.
Symbolico
Very few artists that I know of are as enthusiastic and enterprising about their music and life’s mission as Symbolico. The soul-child project of Or-Ron Stern from Israel, the Symbolico sound is a surreal amalgamation of ambient vibes that bear the promise of magic and mystery, with groovy tribal rhythms which take us back to the humble developmental beginnings of human culture and cutting edge technological production.
Erothyme
In 'Steep Dreams’, the latest album from Bobby West aka Erothyme we find ourselves swimming through a lush undergrowth of sublime sonic awe that consists of graceful glitches and grunts, tender melodies and caressing synths with an underlying foundation of electroclassical euphoria.
Medisound
From the vibrant lands of Hawaii, the eclectic duo known as ‘Medisound’ bring us their debut release ’So Blessed’, a collection of electro-spiritual sonnets that are intended to uplift, heal and nourish the soul through carefully crafted instrumental arrangements and a radical production framework that support the raw lyrical profundity of the vocals. This ingenious work of art ushers the ancient world of medicine music in a modern direction by fusing a festive energy with an organic world-fusion sound .
Mindex
Sonic cyborg and bonafide reality fabric manipulator Mindex has released his latest musical innovation with his new EP ’Logic Board Music’, a sonic canvas that expounds new imaginary humanoid worlds. In this journey through electro-etheric cyber-space, he explores the possibilities of virtual reality through sound in a manner that even Dave Tipper would highly approve
Kukan Dub Lagan
Kukan Dub Lagan is the project of Itay Berger. His unique music style can be best described as psy-chill free dub.
A veteran of the chill out scene and one it’s main propagators, Itay has harnessed nature’s own harmonic oscillators through his machines and mind to create a sentient, minimal ambient journey.
Globular + Geoglyph
The ‘downtempo-psy’ genre contains some subtle yet impactful musicality. Case in point: the album in focus today: "Messages From The Resonator” by the dynamic duo of the chillout scene Globular and Geoglyph. Some of the most exciting stuff in music is happening in this very sonic ecosystem.
