ThirumaLi & Mona Mula
Malayali Rap Star ThirumaLi lashes out against slavery with “Adima”, a hard-hitting, raw and soulful collab with Indonesian-Dutch singer Mona Mula. The rapper, who is one of the main protagonists of Kerala’s hip-hop movement, and is known for being a voice of activism in his social circles, condemns enslavement throughout the history of humanity and while raising awareness on the issue, he also urges the newer generations to take a stand and root out this condition once and for all.
The track is an impressive union of seemingly different worlds for a common cause and definitely hits the point home in a more than convincing manner. Mona Mula’s powerful chorus provides a solid melodic hook that propels the listener away from the darkness of this inherent man-made condition into a hopeful brighter future.
The Spindoctor
The Spindoctor from Mumbai is indeed a multifaceted and enigmatic personality. Between his two polar passions of being a professional turntablist and a practising doctor lies a polite, humble and talented person, who is ‘just a nerd’ at heart.
The DJ/producer, self-proclaimed as ‘geeky and proud’, has put out his second original - a unique experimental track that holds its own in the thriving Indian hip-hop scene. Supporting raw and powerful verses from Gravity and Poetik Justis, the track contains his signature scratches honed from years of practice and playing to crowds of all sizes. The evidence is clear that the Indian hip-hop scene has finally moved out of its nascence and is evolving into a force to be reckoned with.
PAV4N
International hip-hop superstar PAV4N of 'Foreign Beggars' fame dons his new “rap god” avatar by fusing Hindu mythology with hip hop, continues to ceremoniously announce himself in a larger than life fashion in the relatively new field of Indian hip hop with his single “DOOM” which is produced by Sukh Knight with vocals from Ishani.
A dramatically intoxicating vocal hook in Hindi from Ishani catapults the track forward, with Sukh Knight’s unique and hard-hitting beat setting the arena for poetic destruction by Pav, as he lyrically meanders over the bars with his verses elevating the track to a whole new level. He spits his venom in the face of his ‘frenemies' so artfully that it would make the co-starring snake in the music video envious of his ability. However, beneath the brash assertion of his verses, there is deep-rooted respect and groundedness that makes the message hit even harder. The maverick is only getting started in what seems will be new ground in the force of world hip hop and music.
